Isabella Rossellini Does “Green Porno”

The Sundance Channel is releasing Green Porno sex-pisodes (available in the US and will be made available elsewhere in July), a collection of short films starring, co-directed, produced, conceived and written by Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet, 1984). Rossellini, she of the sexy bottom lip, is so joyfully perverse here. Against purposefully small-scale sets that are simple, colorful and textured, she is dressed as an insect and describes what her sex life would be like as a bug. Yes, you just read that. Here! Watch the ‘Earthworm’ episode! It’s very educational!

Rossellini, bless her soul, has been hanging around David Lynch (Inland Empire, 2007) and Guy Maddin (Dracula: Pages from a Virgin’s Diary, 2002) too much. Lucky bum!

Which reminds me about this DVD tidbit…

‘Son of Rambow’

Son of Rambow is a story of a young British kid who wants to make his own shot-by-shot version of Rambo:First Blood.

This movie won over the crowds at Sundance and was picked up by Paramount’s Independant label. It’s cited to be this years Little Miss Sunshine, or even a more jazzed up Billy Elliot. The film is seen by the critics to have a haze of nostalgia surrounding it and the performances of the two leads are incredible.

We’re seeing a lot of these kid-inspired movies coming out lately, where the kids are different but always seem to make the world a better place, or at least their world a better place. Another movie reminiscent of this which came out last year was This is England. I guess these type of movies have their place in modern cinema, but how far will we go before the story becomes too run-down to be screened or picked up by Independant Labels?

Son of Rambow

Coming to a limited release on May 2nd, is Son of Rambow.

Rambow was picked up at Sundance for a reported 8 million by Paramount Vintage.

The story centers around two boys, who are so affected from Rambo: First Blood that they decide to remake it, casting themselves as the main characters. It sounds a little bit like a cross between Martian Child, and About a Boy, only sans the middle aged male leads.
