Sin City 2 & 3

Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez are expanding the Sin City franchise with a sequel to the 2005 hit. The script is complete for the sequel, however the start date is unknown as yet. The cast hasn’t been set in stone but a lot of the original characters will be played by the same actors and actresses.

The plot revolves around the many characters as in the original Sin City.

The film’s plot follows multiple storyline. One is based around A Dame to Kill For which follows Dwight (Clive Owen) and his former love Ava Lord (Rachel Weisz), who betrayed him and ended their relationship for a wealthier man. Ava now returns years later claiming her marriage is abusive and insisting that Dwight help her. After she frames him for the murder of her husband, Dwight, with the help of Marv, seeks to clear his name.

Another storyline follows Nancy (Jessica Alba) as she grieves the death of Detective Hartigan, the man she had grown to love after he rescued her from That Yellow Bastard who had kidnapped and attempted to rape then kill Nancy when she was a child. - IMDB

Coming back for the sequel are Clive Owen (Dwight McCarthy), Jessica Alba (Nancy Callahan), Rosario Dawson (Gail), Brittany Murphy (Shellie), Michael Madsen (Bob), Mickey Rourke (Marv) and Jaime King (Goldie/Wendy).

Rumoured for the sequel are Rachel Weisz, Antonio Banderas, Johnny Depp.
The movie is set to launch in 2010.

An interesting twist is that (at least accoridng to IMDB), Sin City 3 is due to come out in 2009 and is currently in production. With Johnny Depp rumoured as the star character, Wallace. The plot outline is…

“On a dark night in Sin City, an ex-Navy SEAL named Wallace saved a young woman, Esther, from killing herself. After a night on the town, she was kidnapped by mysterious people. May God have mercy on those who stand in Wallace’s way…”

I don’t know about you but Johnny Depp and Sin City is an excellent mix and this project has “instant classic” written all over it.
A question though, is the mix-up between Sin City 2 and 3 intentional or is it just a mistake? We’ll have to keep an eye out to see how this one develops.

From FilmWad

Though filming hasn’t even begun on Sin City 2 yet, Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller already have a rough idea of how the third installment is going to work out. While part 2 will revolve only around the story A Dame To Kill For, the third will likely be based off Hell and Back, with Johnny Depp playing the protagonist, Wallace.

Antonio Banderas will also have a role in part 3, though as to what it is, Rodriguez isn’t quite sure:

“When I showed him the first sample of the work, he went, ‘Man I’ll do anything in that. I’ll be the hunchback. You have to bring me onboard, that looks amazing,’ ” Rodriguez recalled. “So Frank met him that time too and he said, ‘I have got to find something for that guy. I’ve never met him before. He’s amazing.’ [So we're] looking at the cast of characters and [looking] to see where he can fit.”

Considering Hell and Back is, without a doubt, the most boring Sin City story ever written, it’s great to know that a fantastically entertaining actor will be around to spice up the story.

First Teaser Trailer from “The Spirit”

MTV has posted the first teaser trailer from The Spirit, directed by Frank Miller and due in theaters January 2009.

Teaser Poster for “The Spirit”

A new teaser poster for The Spirit was unveiled today to coincide with the New York Comic Con. The movie is being directed by Frank Miller (the creater and co-director of Sin City) and from the looks of what I have seen so far, it will continue the Sin City vibe of harsh contrasts mixed with very purposeful color.

Adapted from the legendary comic book series created by Will Eisner, The Spirit is a classic action-adventure-romance. It’s the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) has a different mission: he’s going to wipe out Spirit’s beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality. The Spirit arrives in theaters on January 16th, 2009.

It really looks like they’re going for a Sin City feel. The first picture makes it seem like they have successfully recreated the feel. The second, not so much. But I’ll wait to pass judgement until the teaser is released. Check the amazing counter gizmo below for the amount of time left.

Finger crossed…fingers crossed.
