What? Another one?

Number one, how did I miss this information, and number two, for god’s sakes why? Why make another? Also, why is it a prequel to the third one? Does that make any sense…no it doesn’t. NONE.

RocknRolla Opening Credits

You know you are doing well as a director when the opening credits to your newest movie are being displayed on the internet…not even the trailer. Enjoy.

RocknRolla opens October 31st…which can’t come soon enough.

Awesome: Joker Bank Robbery Action Figure

Hot Toys has just announced their latest piece of joy. a 1/6th scale figure of the Joker from the first scene of The Dark Knight. It stands 12 inches tall, and features 32 points of articulation. It comes with two different heads, a removable clown mask, fragmentation and smoke grenades, a duffel bag, playing cards (Jokers of course) a hand gun, a machine gun, and more.

I would imagine this is going to go fast, probably faster then the $10 dollar one that sold out a month before the film was released despite the much higher price. Enjoy the rest of the pictures and your dreams of the fun you two could share.

Death Race Review

Bottom Line: Your $10 would be better spent on a few gallons of gas for YOUR car.

Death Race is a pretty ambitious undertaking, Paul W.S. Anderson not only has to attempt to recreate the feel of the original movie, but he has to prove that his imagining of the film is superior. While he recreated the gritty feel of the movies from the 70’s fairly accurately, nothing was done to prove the superiority of his film. Starting in the beginning with the opening words (a totally unnecessary attempt at explaining the setting and story to us) to the consistantly horrid dialogue, all Mr. Anderson proved was his ineptitude in writing scripts. The back story provided in the beginning of the movie (and later repeated in flashbacks) should have only been introduced in short flashbacks, instead of taking up almost 15 minutes of the movie.

The acting in this film is far from good, Joan Allen is shown as the stereotypical power hungry woman, and her dialogue is full of prosaic statements. The rest of the supporting cast is mediocre at best. As the main character, Jason Statham provides a nice breath of fresh air to this film, but it is not enough to salvage it.

The cinematography in this film is nothing special. At times it comes across as a little too dark, a problem that could have easily been rectified.

The one thing done right in this film is the action, it is brutal and relentless. As long as you ignore the claim that 35 gallon gas tank would take a several ton Mustang around a 4-5 mile course several times, it doesn’t dissapoint. The action is so severe that there is a nice little disclaimer at the end of the film.

Death Race isn’t going to win any awards (Razzie?) but if you are looking for a mindless action film, you may enjoy it when it comes out on DVD (as long as you mute it). One (more) plus about this film is that it would make one hell of a video game.

Update on the Batpod Incident

Earlier today I got a takedown notice for a certain image, that I found by searching Google, that I believed to be the Special Edition DVD set for the Dark Knight. I thought I’d share the text of the take-down notice with you. enjoy:

VIA ELECTRONIC EMAIL

Dear Abuse Manager,

Screenhead is offering images from The Dark Knight consisting of the Batpod, and DVD case art work.  I have a good faith belief that such content is not authorized by Warner Bros., its agent, or the law and therefore infringes Warner Bros.’ rights.

Images to be removed are located at:
http://www.screenhead.net/awesome-bat-pod-dvd-set <http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/26927856.html>

I swear, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notification is accurate and that I am the copyright owner or am authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

Please confirm that you have taken the appropriate action at your earliest convenience.  Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and please advise should you have any questions or require any additional information.

Thank you.

I’ll leave it up to you to determine whether that confirms the existence of a Batpod DVD set or not…(the bold words were not bold in the original email if that helps.)

It is a little strange that a person working for such a huge production company would make such a mistake as claiming that I was associated with both of the sites in question though.

He was nice about it though, that’s a nice change.

(The above image is not the one previously posted here…this one is legit)

Role Models Trailer

Role Models is one of those movies that could either be amazing or horrible but not in between. Watch the trailer and then cross your fingers firmly.

Kevin Smith, the Reluctant Film Critic

Thanks to an NDA, Kevin Smith can’t tell us what movie he saw outright, but sure wasn’t hesitant about dropping hints in a recent interview. Here’s the interview:

Smith: I saw a movie last night that I cannot talk about.

Host: Was it good?

Smith: It was phenomenal.

Host: Any stars, any break out stars, and do they trek?

Smith: The stars absolutely trek in this film. It is fantastic. Anybody who was worried doesn’t need to be worried–about this film I cannot talk about…It was in very capable hands. The director did a phenomenal job–the director and his crew. Top notch cast and the guy that plays the lead is an instant star. That dude is going to be so famous. He is so wonderful. He picked up a role that I would say is pretty challenging for someone to step into the shoes of, because it is a role that has been played before many times by the same guy.

Host: How do you out Shatner, Shatner?

Smith: I don’t what you are talking about.

Host: I was just saying that as an expression.

Smith: Yes, absolutely, in a world of expressions, I would agree with that…I am so not

Was he just leading us on or do you think he was talking about JJ Abrams’ Star Trek?

‘Star Trek’ Fan Poster

Uhh…awesome. Personally I like this better then the most recent official posters. This was created by UK artist Mark Storey. You can check out more of his work here.

What do you think about fan created posters? Do you like them, or would you rather just wait to see what the producers come up with?

Awesome: Bat Pod DVD Set

Update: I just got a take-down notice from Warner Bros. themselves…great fun. They just all but confirmed the truth of this, didn’t they…

Are we going to call shenanigans on this, or is it legit? Our tipster claims it’ll be a special edition DVD set, but in this form (if this is how it will be packaged) it looks more like just a toy/collectable then a DVD set.

What do you think, real or fake? Either way, I’m ready to buy one…right now. Hear that Mr. Nolan, you could just send one my way if you want. I won’t mind.

Venom Spin-off Movie Coming Soon?

Sony has announced that they are working on the script for a Venom spin-off movie. It would not be starring Topher Grace, and it’s tentatively set for a 2010 release. Asked about it, Sam Raimi said that he has yet to be shown the script, I can’t tell if he wants to be given the right to shoot it or whether he just wants to read it.

Do you think they are just trying to milk the franchise, or are they just trying to make movies?
