April 24th, 2008 — Upcoming, preview, speculation

Eli Roth has announced that he is hard at work on a script for a “mass-destruction monster movie”
“This will be my first big-budget, PG-13, mass-destruction movie,” Roth explained. “I went total chaos and pandemonium. I feel like I pushed the violence in R movies about as far as I can push it. I feel like I’m bled out. I wanna switch it up. Everyone I know has been saying ‘When are you gonna do a movie my kids can see?’ And finally, I’m gonna make a movie that 13-year-old kids can see.”
The plot hasn’t been revealed yet, but his inspiration (Cloverfield and Transformers) shows promise. Roth plans to make an announcement, presumably to help the purchase of the script, which he is writing entirely on spec.
The thing that annoys me is that the more projects Roth works on, the farther Cell is pushed back. The adaption of the novel by Stephen King was set to begin production after the release of Hostel 2. It looks like it has been tabled for the time being.
April 24th, 2008 — Uncategorized, dark knight, preview, speculation

Welcome to a world without rules…
The tagline, and the new gritty, dark poster. Dark Knight will without a doubt be a faithful sequel to Batman Begins. This is shaping up to be the summer movie. Iron Man looks cool and all. So does Speed Racer, but it all comes back to this.
The poster was found on the viral site http://www.whysoserious.com/itsallpartoftheplan/
Along with the trailer, was this morsel.

Probably a countdown until the next trailer which debuted at Comic-Con, but time will tell.
Do you think Dark Knight will live up to the expectations?
April 24th, 2008 — Upcoming, movies, preview
Ok, I admit, we do surf the other movie blogs a bit, to keep an eye on our competition. One thing that’s been going on is the seemingly annual anticipated summer films post. I am a bit peeved so to speak about the other blogs choices. Hancock? Yeah right. Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian? WTF?! WTF is about all you can say about that one. So without further ado here are the top 5 anticipated films of summer 2008.

- The Dark Knight: The build up for the sequel to Batman Begins began last summer, and has continued relentlessly. It promises to follow in the footsteps of Begins in terms of style, and overall quality.

2. Iron Man: Actor turned director Jon Favreau has already mastered the art of capturing audiences attention months before the movie debuts in theaters. This promises to be one of the awesomest (yes that is a word…I used it) movies this summer.

3. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Less then a month!!! Less then a month!!!

4. Speed Racer: The Wachowski’s movie looks like a stereotypical summer movie…that isn’t a bad thing. It looks like it will be full of action, and adrenaline, and teenagers wishing they could be like Emilie Hirsch.

5. Wall-E: Pixar’s latest, is definately the most kid friendly of the lot, but it looks like it will be able to charm even adults. If you have missed any of the trailers, be sure to catch up. You won’t be sorry.
There you have it folks. Tell me what you think I should have added, or taken out. Talk.
April 24th, 2008 — hellboy, movies, speculation

Guillermo del Toro has said that if Hellboy II is successful enough for it to make sense to make a sequal, he would do Hellboy III, and nothing more.
“If there was ever a third one, I would really make sure that we at least sign a contract that there is no more, no prequels and no sequels: nothing. If that happens, then there is a third one we have planned, and the seeds are planted in this film.” Guillermo told SciFi.
He announced that the third film would involve Hellboy fighting against 21st century, well equipped (monetarily that is…) Nazis.
Do you think there should be a third Hellboy? Would you pony up the cash to see it?
April 24th, 2008 — Upcoming, movies

When I first saw the Machete Trailer I thought it was pretty funny, and innovative, to make a fake 1970’s/80’s style trailer to go with the rest of the 70’s theme when introducing the Grindhouse movies by Tarantino and Rodriguez.
But… to my surprise, Robert Rodriguez is writing and directing Machete, which is already in production!
The star is, of course, Danny Trejo, acting as Machete, an ex-Federale who launches a brutal rampage of revenge against his former boss after being betrayed by the organization which hired him.
It’s all very 1980’s kitsch, even the tagline reads: “Yesterday He Was A Decent Man Living A Decent Life. Now He Is A Brutal Savage Who Must Slaughter To Stay Alive.”
Whatever it is… I’m sure it’ll be fun in a violent, grunge way which we’ve all become accustomed to from Rodriguez’s work.
April 24th, 2008 — movies

The Silver Surfer has been announced to launch in 2009. Doug Jones, who has played the Faun in Pan’s Labyrinth, and will be playing Abe Sapien, the Chamberlain and The Angel of Death in Hellboy 2, is rumoured to play the part of The Silver Surfer.
Alex Proyas is in talks regarding directing the movie which is written by J. Michael Staczynski with characters created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee.
The plot revolves simply around The Silver Surfer, after saving Planet Earth, must now
race back to planet Zenn-La & stop Galactus from destroying his
home world out of revenge for betraying him.
The spin off from the Fantastic 4 should create genuine interest from comic book fans, however, I hope the silver Surfer does a lot more talking than he did in the Fantastic 4, in which he seemed to have a cameo appearance most of the time and just provided the backdrop for a bigger story around the Fantastic 4.
