Austin Powers 4 Has a Script

We all knew that a fourth one was coming…we just didn’t know when. Now it has been reported that not only does Austin Powers 4 have a script, but they may have the Powers girl. None other then…Gisele Bundchen. The 27 year old model has been given the script, and she will be meeting with Myers, and director Jay Roach soon.

Earlier, it was hinted at that 4 will be taking a similar path as X-Men and doing a movie more focused on one character. In this case, that character would be Dr. Evil.

We’ll keep you informed, as this is still far off.

On DVD This Week: Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem came out on DVD today. This is the sequel to the AVP movie from 2004 and it features a new cast, new director, and what the studio had hoped would be a winning new direction for an AVP franchise. The box office was not so hot for this movie and it will most likely do much better business on DVD as more people are willing to give a DVD a shot for some cheap thrills. And of course, as with almost every DVD release these days, there is the obligatory 2 Disc Extended cut of the film. AvPGalaxy.net has posted a very detailed list of what the differences are between the extended version and the theatrical version. There is a some moving around and a few more minutes added here and there, but overall there are no major changes.

I’m a big fan of the Alien films. And I thought the two Predator films pretty much sucked. So when merging the two series together, I wondered was it going to be awesome like Alien or suck like Predator? Well, these movies are not as bad as Predator, but they are nowhere near as awesome as even the worst Alien movie. Continue reading →

Final Speed Racer One-Sheet

Speed Racer ArtworkSee More Speed Racer Artwork at IGN.com

Less than a month away from the live-action Speed Racer film directed by the Wachowski Brothers, IGN has posted the final one-sheet. Here is their plot synopsis.

Born to race cars, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized—the legendary Rex Racer, whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer (John Goodman), the designer of Speed’s thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company’s maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret—some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won’t drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line. The only way for Speed to save his family’s business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), Speed teams with his one-time rival—the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox)—to win the race that had taken his brother’s life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.

Speed Racer hits theaters May 9th.

Guillermo Del Toro to direct ‘The Hobbit’

Guillermo Del Toro

Guillermo Del Toro, the mastermind behind the instant classic, Pan’s Labyrinth, is cited to be the director for the up-and-coming prequel to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit. Nothing is confirmed as yet, although Del Toro’s message board confirms there is a lot of talk around cast, creative, crew, visuals, etc. but any final concrete information on the movie is yet to be disclosed. The closest we can get is Del Toro’s promise… “Expect good things in the next 2 weeks and a nice item at COMICON.”

As for the question “Why Guillermo Del Toro and not Peter Jackson?”
Peter Jackson didn’t want the job, and there is no clear reason why, maybe he’s all Gollum’d out.

450 New Line Employees Fired

In an effort to cut costs, Warner Bros. has fired (ok, let go) 450 former New Line workers. About 40 New Line workers will be offered jobs at Warner Bros, while the rest well…won’t. Under Warner Bros, New Line will make about six to eight films per year, focusing more on niche films and less on films guaranteed to be commercial successes (with a notable exception being The Hobbit). Here’s to hoping that the quality of the almost 40 year old studio’s films doesn’t decline.

New Hulk Poster

IGN has posted a brand new poster for the upcoming Ed Norton reboot of The Incredible Hulk which hits theaters June 13th.

BTW, I notice that the Hulk is wearing jeans (how stylish). And since there is a side by side comparison between the Hulk and Bruce Banner (Ed Norton), I can’t help but wonder what’s up with those jeans? Are they some magic jeans that super-expand on demand? All of a sudden they are 3 times as big!

‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Teaser Trailer

A new trailer for the upcoming theatrical release of the new animated Star Wars movie has been posted on Movieweb.com. The movie uses 3D animation to create a look very similar to the 2D animated Clone Wars series from 2003.

It seems to me that George Lucas was doing a largely computer generated movie anyway with Revenge Of The Sith. If you watch this trailer, the space battles between this movie and the last Star Wars movie look very similar. How long will it be until George Lucas does 100% CGI Star Wars movies made to simulate real actors instead of cartoons? The Clone Wars hits theaters August 15, 2008.
