March 31st, 2008 — movies

21, the gambling drama starring Jim Sturgess, Kate Bosworth, and Kevin Spacey has taken the weekend’s top spot with a $23.7 million take. Hardly groundbreaking, but still a respectable opening for a normally slow season. Its Metacritic rating though, is hovering around a less then desirable 48 (of 100). We haven’t had a chance to catch this one, but according to The Village Voice it’s not worth it.
We’ll see what happens.

March 3rd, 2008 — comedy, movies
Semi-Pro took the weekend box office with a $15.3 million opening. The basketball comedy though, is the lowest opening for a Will Ferrell movie in almost 10 years. Semi-Pro was expected to take in over $20 million. Kind of a sad ending for New Line as a stand alone studio before they are absorbed by Warner Brothers.
Any thoughts, did you like the movies? The Screenhead review is coming later this week.
